The Ford F-150 is still one of the top-selling vehicles in the country. Throughout 14 generations, this iconic full-size pickup truck has moved truck design forward with features that make it a benchmark in its segment: capability, technology, and creature comforts. The options for your F-150 are endless! This iconic truck comes in several styles, including an electric hybrid and a powerful V6 engine. Here’s a detailed look at some of its most popular features:
An impressive bed & cabin size:
The F-150 comes in three cab and bed configurations, which can be combined in many ways. The Regular Cab has seating for three people across its bench seat. The SuperCab allows for five or six passengers, while the SuperCrew offers more space in the second row. The bed lengths are 5.5-, 6.5-, and 8.0 feet long and provide 52.8, 62.3, and 77.4 cubic feet of cargo volume, respectively. Regardless of length, all of the F-150’s bed options measure 21.4 inches deep and 51.1 inches between wheel wells.
Towing & payload capacity:
The F-150’s weight capacities vary depending on body, cab, powertrain, and options configurations. Ford claims the Regular Cab, 8.0-foot bed, RWD model with the 5.0-liter V-8, and heavy-duty payload package can haul up to 3,325 pounds. Towing capacity tops at 14,000 pounds. The SuperCab, an 8.0-foot bed, enables that RWD model with the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 RWD powertrain and the max trailer towing package.
Safety features:
Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, high beams, windshield wipers, brake auto-hold, and hill start assist. Some additional features include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts. The Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0 suite adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and emergency evasive steering. This impressive army of safety features also includes semi-autonomous parking.
Technology offerings:
The 2022 Ford F-150 uses an 8.0-inch touchscreen as a standard offering, while higher-end models offer a 12.0-inch unit. Both screens run Ford’s Sync 4 user interface, which has over-the-air update capability to gain new features and data. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available options.
A wireless charging pad is available, and also standard on higher trim levels are a 4.0-inch display cluster, an 8.0-inch or 12.0-inch gauge cluster information display, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability for up to 10 devices at once. The system can cover an area of 50 feet around the vehicle. Also included with high-end F-150 models is a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with 18 speakers, including a few in the front headrests. The FordPass Connect smartphone app allows the user to remotely monitor and control the vehicle’s functions.
EV offerings:
Ford has just unveiled a new fully electric F-150 Lightning, which the company says will be the most powerful F-150 ever built. The electric pickup will feature a dual-motor AWD powertrain that will allow for 563 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. Ford is also estimating around 0-60 mph in the mid-four-second range and promises a max towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and up to 300 miles of range. And get this—it’ll even be affordable.
