Traverse RS and SUV Sportiness

Chevrolet has fully embraced this trend. In addition to the RS, their large crossover SUV can be customized with a Midnight Edition, Sport Edition, or Redline Edition package, which mainly includes various black exterior elements. However, some people might think that the sporty appearance of the Traverse RS is for show.

Features and Performance

The RS trim includes dark-finish 20-inch wheels (instead of 18-inch), power-folding mirrors, black roof rails, a black grille, black window surrounds, and black badges. When the RS trim was first introduced in 2018, its engine was a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. However, this engine did not provide impressive performance and was only available with front-wheel drive. The turbo-four engine has since been discontinued. The RS model uses the same engine as all other Traverse models, a 3.6-liter V-6 with 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque.

Traverse RS On the Road

Although the V-6 engine is the same as in other Traverse models, it is powerful enough to accelerate this large SUV from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. These acceleration times are equivalent to the Kia Telluride, which has won numerous awards. The Traverse RS also outperforms the six-cylinder Jeep Grand Cherokee L, which takes 8.0 seconds to reach 60 mph.

Fuel Efficiency and Towing Capacity

With all-wheel drive, the Traverse RS equipped with the V-6 engine has EPA estimates of 17 mpg (city) and 25 mpg (highway). These are not outstanding numbers but are in line with other vehicles in this segment. However, our highway fuel economy test at 75 mph only achieved 22 mpg.

Driving and Interior Space

The Traverse is a large vehicle, sometimes making it feel like driving a bus. However, its spacious dimensions make accommodating a large group of people easy. The second row offers plenty of room. The seats can be adjusted to give more legroom to the passengers in the middle or back row. The RS trim comes with captain’s chairs as standard. You can choose the LT Leather trim level if you prefer a three-passenger bench. The third row of seats is one of the most spacious in its segment.
