Everything You Need to Know about the Jeep Wrangler

This classic off-roader has a traditional exterior design that pays homage to the tough Jeeps of WWII. But it’s loaded with modern amenities like touchscreen infotainment, cruise control, and eight-speaker audio. With leather seats, ambient interior lighting, in-dash navigation, onboard Wi-Fi, and a power-operated soft top, higher-level trims may even be considered luxurious.

The Wrangler is available in two-door and four-door body styles, but those seeking more capacity for passengers and cargo should go for the four-door Unlimited variants. There is a range of powertrain options available, including a plug-in hybrid and a 6.4-liter V-8, but the Wrangler comes standard with four-wheel drive.

A wide range of capability-enhancing upgrades is available, helping consumers customize their Wrangler to suit their needs. The Wrangler really has what it takes to compete with rivals, thanks to its long list of features, specs, and models, as well as its reputation for being unstoppable on any terrain.

Here’s what’s new:

The Wrangler range, for now, gets the Willys model with the Xtreme Recon package. This off-road-ready package includes 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, a 1.5-inch suspension raise, improved brakes, and a slew of blacked-out external trim and emblems. The 3.6-liter V-6 engine comes as standard on the Willys Xtreme Recon, which comes solely in the four-door Unlimited body style.

Engine and performance

The basic 285hp 3.6-liter V6 from the previous-generation Wrangler returns under the hood of the new JL, and it’s available with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor provides extra low-end power.

The Wrangler may be offered with a 3.6-liter V6 with comparable hybrid help, a 3.0-liter diesel V6, a new, 375hp plug-in hybrid 4xe engine, and a 6.4-liter V8 in addition to the basic V6 and optional four-cylinder hybrid.

Since Wranglers are intended for off-road usage, part-time four-wheel drive is standard and is controlled by a lever on the center console. The Wrangler JL performs pretty well compared to the previous generation. However, it only keeps up with its competitors in select categories. Despite improvements in handling, the new Wrangler can feel a little truck-like. However, given all that it has to offer, this is not a deal-breaker. The four-ride door’s quality is acceptable over rough terrain, although braking distances may vary.
