What You Need to Know About the GMC Sierra 2500HD

The Sierra HD is a full-size, heavy-duty pick-up truck. The vehicle has the power and size for demanding towing jobs, a spacious interior, and well-built controls. It’s reliable, comfortable, and stylish. If you’re looking for a strong pick-up truck, the Sierra’s great in its class.

The all-new Sierra 2500HD

The manufacturer offers 2500 and 3500 styles in regular, extended, and crew-cab options, along with a vast range of trims. On the outside, the Sierra has imposing lines with big, angular wheel openings and beds with many steps for easy access. There are multiple trim levels, too. Though the interiors are on the simpler side, you’ll be impressed with the space of massive cabins.

The base V-8 is great for lighter jobs, but the optional turbo diesel that generates 910 lb-ft of torque is the real deal, especially if you want a heavy-duty truck. When properly equipped, the 3500HD can tow over 35,000 lbs. The truck has comfortable, plush seats and a lot of room. This distracts from the dull dash design. The 8.0-inch touchscreen has an easy-to-use interface and wireless phone compatibility.

Is the Sierra 2500HD a good-looking truck?

If you like big, macho lines, it sure is. Though the outside is chunky and bold, we can’t say the same about the cabin. The truck doesn’t look bad, especially when you account for its mass. The enormous grille rises above traffic and is flanked by large headlights. From the side, the angular wheels look like Craftsman sockets. Denali versions are in chrome, while AT4-styled ones have a pseudo-rugged.

Inside, the 8.0-inch touchscreen is placed high on the dashboard. Unfortunately, the controls may be tricky to find.

How fast is the GMC Sierra 2500HD?

The Sierra HD can be fleet of foot, but its towing ability makes it a good choice.

The base 6.6-liter V-8’s 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque are standard. But, heavy towers will want to upgrade to the turbo diesel with its 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft. The turbo diesel is also a step up from the 6-speed automatic.

Comfort and quality

Though this truck is enormous inside, competitors have more compelling designs. However, the comfortable seats and its expansive bed redeem its basic interiors. The GMC has regular and extended-cab versions, but most drivers opt for crew cabs with four full-size doors.
