The Lexus NX is a compact luxury crossover SUV that offers bold exterior styling, luxurious and comfortable interiors, and high-end technology. The Lexus NX also offers hybrid powertrains that are fuel-efficient. While this model isn’t cheap to buy new, you can get a better deal on a pre-owned one. So what do you need to know when buying second-hand?
Vehicle history report
Before buying any pre-owned car, make sure you check its vehicle history report. This will be able to tell you how the car has been driven over its lifetime. If you’re buying from a dealer, they should provide one. But if not, it’s worth getting your own so that you don’t have to pay for unexpected repairs later.
Powertrains
The earliest model of the Lexus NX was available with two different powertrains; a 200t and 300h.
Lexus NX 200t
The 200t is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 235 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft of torque, and sends power either to the front wheels or all four via a six-speed automatic transmission.
Although it isn’t a hybrid, Lexus tuned this engine to switch between the conventional and Atkinson cycles to improve fuel efficiency. Although the engine is powerful, you will not find it exhilarating to drive unless you select “Sport” mode.
Lexus NX 300h
The Lexus NX 300h is a hybrid version of the luxury compact SUV—you don’t have to be a hardcore car enthusiast to deduce that. The system uses a 154-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and includes a couple of electric motor generators. The motors on their own can power the NX at low speeds—but they also recharge the battery and provide additional torque when needed by working together.
Lexus NX 300
A few years ago, Lexus renamed the Lexus NX 200t, the Lexus 300, but it’s still powered by a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that debuted in earlier models.
Reliability
According to a survey, the Lexus NX200t has an above-average rank. Compared to the costs of owning a luxury car, it is averagely priced, the frequency of problems isn’t as much, and the severity of the repairs is usually low.
Lexus is known as a luxury car brand, and even though you’re buying a pre-owned one, Lexus itself has been known for making very dependable cars. If reliability is a crucial factor in your used car purchase and you can afford to buy one, there are no better choices than Lexus models.
