The Silverado 2500 HD has a beefy frame and powerful drive, thanks to its 6.0-liter V8 engine. It’s a full-size, heavy-duty pickup truck, making it a good option for towing and hauling. With several cab configurations, engines, bed lengths, and trims, this full-size truck has had loads to offer through the years.
First generation (2000-2006)
The 2500 HD version came out in 2000 and featured a heavy duty frame suspension, steering, and brakes to take on heavier payloads and towing jobs. The heavy-duty drivetrain and an optional Duramax V8 paired with the Allison 1000 5-speed automatic is a reliable option available for long-running durability. The Silverado offers a 300 hp, 6.0-liter V8 engine.
The 2500 Silverado comes in a three-passenger two-door car, a five to six-passenger four-door extended car, and a four-door crew cab configuration. Its broadside 8-foot-long box added rigid components. These include a Hydroboost recirculating-ball power steering, massive four-wheel discs with ABS, and a torsion-bar front suspension. Together with the Duramax engine, these features enable payloads from 3,000 pounds to 4,000 pounds and tow ratings from 10,600 pounds and up.
Second generation (2007-2014)
The second generation of the 2500 HD came out in 2007. The Silverado is available in a few versions- the regular, extended, and crew cab styles. The second generation model offers seating for five passengers, leaving enough room for both rows. The car has a big dashboard and a steering-column gear-selector for the automatic transmission.
The front is the same, with a wide chromed slat in the center of the grill for the LT trim levels. The LTZ trim level has the bar and bumper in the body color of the car. The crew cab has four doors and just one 5.75’ bed in the back. The 353 horsepower 6.0-liter V8 engine is standard, but the 365 hp 6.6-liter turbo-diesel engine is optional. Safety features include driver and passenger airbags, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, and tire pressure monitoring tools.
Third generation (2015-present)
Fully redesigned, the 2500 HD starts its third generation with a bang. The Silverado still comes with a three-person cab and a double cab with full-length backseats and narrow rear doors. The regular cab has an 8-foot bed, while the other is available in a 6.5-ft bed as well. The standard engine is a 6-liter V8 that provides 360 horsepower. The 2500 HD also offers a 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 with 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque for maximum power.
